Episode 3: Victory at Standing Rock; Exxon Threatens Guyana; and Why a Green Stimulus Works Best
Previous Episode – Next Episode
On the third episode of (Un)Covering Oil with Antonia Juhasz, Antonia is joined by:
Kandi White, Native Energy & Climate Campaign Coordinator with Indigenous Environmental Network discussing the victory won this week by water protectors against the Dakota Access oil pipeline when a judge ordered the pipeline shutdown (at least for now).
Melinda Janki joins from Guyana where she is Executive Director of the Justice Institute Guyana. She is leading efforts to halt ExxonMobil’s plans to turn Guyana into one of the world’s newest and largest petrostates.
Brian O’Callaghan of the Smith School for Enterprise and the Environment at the University of Oxford joins from the UK. He is co-author with Joseph Stiglitz and others of a new study of over 700 economic stimulus policies launched during or since the 2008 financial crisis which finds that investments in green recovery programs are the most cost-effective way to revive economies in the wake of Covid-19, rather than their fossil-fueled counterparts.
With the support from the Bertha Foundation and a grant from the Society of Environmental Journalists, Antonia has launched a new special series, (Un)Covering Oil with Antonia Juhasz, airing monthly on KGNU radio in Colorado.
