2009 Library Laureates Dinner-Celebrating the Theory of Evolution
Friday, April 17, 2009
Add gills to your sports coat or peacock-up your favorite frock, because this year’s Laureates literary gala is set to fossilize as one of our greatest yet.
At our 13th Annual Library Laureates Dinner: Celebrating the Theory of Evolution, you’ll find yourself among some of the most spectacular of our species, as thirty-five Bay Area writers celebrate the bicentennial of Charles Darwin’s birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of On the Origin of Species. Through the glitz and bramble of our evening’s earthy theme, we’ll toast to how far we’ve come (and where we are going), while our Laureates share their stories about how their work has “evolved.”
Our talented list (these aren’t dodo birds!) of Library Laureate honorees include: Tamim Ansary, Rodes Fishburne, Susan Griffin, Antonia Juhasz, Peter Orner, Raj Patel, K.M. Soehnlein, Frank Sulloway and many more writers in various genres.
The evening will begin with a reception in the Main Library’s atrium before breaking into more intimate social gatherings. Writers and guests will move to the warm atmosphere of the Library’s specially trimmed affinity centers to sit down and make use of their opposable thumbs by enjoying an exquisite meal catered by Paula LeDuc and the dangerous ideas of fellow library enthusiasts.
Our 13th Annual Library Laureates Dinner is sure to “evolve” into an evening to remember. All proceeds benefit the library, so be sure to don your best Darwin and get ready to celebrate growth, diversity, knowledge, and all the things that make our Library – and our world – such a splendid place.
