YUPU weekly invite renowned guests to engage and challenge our membership — over tea, dinner, conversation, or a formal debate. The Union is non-partisan, though some of its guests have included Ronald Reagan, Antonin Scalia, Noam Chomsky, and Jill Stein.
Members have gone on to become famed legal scholars, attorney generals, governors, senators, federal circuit justices, and presidents of the United States.
Since 1934, the Union’s purpose has been the encouragement of spirited
and substantive debate on matters of public interest. Modeled after the Oxford and Cambridge Unions, they operate like any
legislative body, using parliamentary procedure to express passionate disagreement with civility.
