Pomona, CA

Antonia Juhasz, investigative journalist, will be delivering this year’s annual Pinkel Lecture in Media Studies on the following topic: (Un)Covering Big Oil: Wars, Disasters, and the Challenges of Contemporary Investigative Journalism.

Antonia Juhasz is a Fellow of the Investigative Reporting Program at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. She is a leading oil and energy analyst, author, and journalist. She has covered the oil industry for nearly 15 years, writing for the New York Times, Johannesburg Star, Los Angeles Times, CNN.com, The Nation, The Atlantic, Left Turn, Harper’s and Foreign Policy, among other outlets and regularly provides commentary for major radio and TV programs. Juhasz spent three weeks traveling across Afghanistan in late 2012 and her article, “The New War for Afghanistan’s Untapped Oil,” ran in The Atlantic in January. On March 19, her Op Ed, “Why the Iraq War was Fought for Big Oil,” ran on the front page of CNN.com. She spent much of 2010 embedded within those communities most impacted by the BP Gulf oil spill. As a reporter for the Investigative Fund of the Nation Institute, she wrote the cover article for the May 2012 issue of The Nation, “BP’s Toxic Legacy.” Juhasz is the author of three books: Black Tide: the Devastating Impact of the Gulf Oil Spill; The Tyranny of Oil; and The Bush Agenda. She holds a Masters and Bachelors Degree in Public Policy from Georgetown University and Brown University, respectively.

Following the lecture, 5C community members are invited to have dinner with Antonia Juhasz. Space is limited; if you are interested in attending the dinner, please RSVP to eaffuso@pitzer.edu.
