Yale University Political Union Presenter/Judge

Antonia gave a presentation to the Yale University Political Union, the oldest and largest collegiate debate union in America and the largest student group on Yale’s campus, followed by a debate of its members.

Juhasz argued in the affirmative – “Resolved: The United States Should Not Pursue ‘Global Energy Dominance’ (the current Trump Administration Policy.” At the end of the deate, YUPU members voted overwhelmingly (38 to 2) in support of Juhasz’s position.

YUPU weekly invite renowned guests to engage and challenge our membership — over tea, dinner, conversation, or a formal debate. The Union is non-partisan, though some of its guests have included Ronald Reagan, Antonin Scalia, Noam Chomsky, and Jill Stein.

Members have gone on to become famed legal scholars, attorney generals, governors, senators, federal circuit justices, and presidents of the United States.

Since 1934, the Union’s purpose has been the encouragement of spirited
and substantive debate on matters of public interest. Modeled after the Oxford and Cambridge Unions, they operate like any
legislative body, using parliamentary procedure to express passionate disagreement with civility.

“We a strong commitment to free speech, and we believe open, yet rigorous exchange of ideas is central to Yale’s mission. Our independent status allows us to defend open discourse.”
