Progressive Magazine April cover article, “BP Oil Still Tars the Gulf.”

I conducted new research in the Gulf in January 2012 for this article on the current status of the Gulf. It all began on April 20, 2010, when a gas bubble raced up 18,360 feet of steel pipe from deep within the Macondo oil well off the coast of Louisiana on a deadly collusion course with the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig. The events that unfolded led to the world’s largest unintentional oil spill and one of the worst environmental disasters in history. I covered these events in detail in my April 2011 book, Black Tide: the Devastating Impact of the Gulf Oil Spill (Wiley). I’m excited to now report on where things stand today, two years later.
